I’m passionate about helping schools integrate creativity into their curriculum
Pottery has been an outlet of mine for 12 years. It’s inspiration led me to study Communication, Ceramics, and Education at UW-Madison so that I could understand why art fundamentally affects how we interpret the world. Once I realized how powerful of an effect creativity has on our brains, and how critical it is that children have access to it, my mission became to help schools integrate creative outlets into their curriculum.
Art improves brain plasticity and increases dopamine production
Research shows that by exercising parts of the brain used when being creative, you improve brain plasticity and release more dopamine, making you happier and improving cognition. This causes a remarkable impact on students’ academic, social, and emotional outcomes. Still, art education is still marginalized and for the most part not funded by governments. Schools don’t have the teachers, time, or the supplies to give access to children that need it most.
Katy’s Clay aims to address this problem.
